On March 18th, the official signing of the renewal of the Intersectoral Agreement in Justice for ID-Autism took place at the APICO premises, as part of the Quebec Intellectual Disability Week.
This initiative aims to improve access to justice for autistic individuals and people with intellectual disabilities (ID) in our region, whether they are victims, offenders, or simply involved, regardless of their connection to the judicial process. It also seeks to provide tailored support and ensure that their rights are fully respected.

This agreement is built on active collaboration between 14 partners, including 3 new ones this year:

  • Association pour l’intégration communautaire de l’Outaouais (APICO)
  • Trait d’Union Outaouais (TUO)
  • Gatineau Police Service
  • Les Apprentis – Center for Learning Disabilities
  • Centre de formation adaptée Petite-Nation (CFAPN)
  • Assistance and Fight Against Sexual Assault Center (CALAS) – Outaouais
  • DI-TSA User Committee of CISSS de l’Outaouais
  • Crime Victims Assistance Center (CAVAC) – Outaouais
  • CISSSO – Directorate of Home Support, Disability, and Rehabilitation
  • Société de transport de l’Outaouais
  • Office des personnes handicapées du Québec (OPHQ)
  • Association des personnes handicapées de Papineau (APHP) (new)
  • Public Safety of the MRC des Collines-de-l’Outaouais (new)
  • Cooperative of Paramedics of the Outaouais (new)

As part of this initiative, Trait d’Union Outaouais commits to:

  • Raising awareness among its staff about the realities faced by autistic individuals;
  • Facilitating the adoption of this agreement by its teams;
  • Promoting the existence of the agreement to autistic individuals and their families;
  • Providing reception, information, referral, and support services upon request to autistic individuals, their families, and their community;
  • Actively collaborating with the body responsible for coordinating this protocol.

During the event, our Chair of the Board of Directors, Denis Corriveau,  expressed deep emotion for this initiative. Emphasis was placed on the crucial importance of tailored interventions for the unique characteristics and limitations of autistic individuals and those with ID, as well as the significance of collaboration among regional organizations.

A heartfelt thank you to Stéphane Viau, Executive Director of APICO, for his exceptional leadership throughout this process. Thanks to this agreement and the spirit of collaboration among the 14 signatories, we are creating a more inclusive and equitable environment for all. We are proud to be part of this transformative project and to contribute to lasting change in our community. This signing, as part of Quebec Intellectual Disability Week, reaffirms our collective commitment to inclusion and equity.
